Relaxation is not something typically equated with motherhood. Most moms would probably admit that carving out “me-time” is one of the hardest things to do.
It’s not just the logistics of it, it’s also about that crushing mom guilt we all experience from time to time. This week we thought we would share with you our favorite ways to relax and unwind. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself, too!
“Resting for me, equals quiet. I love sitting on my porch just observing my surroundings … sitting anywhere, for that matter, in quiet, is restful for me. After having children I realized how much I love being alone. Ha! I love you children but y’all are loud! And let’s be honest. Sometimes a glass of wine just does the trick.” –Jenilee
“I grew up on the beaches of Florida. So my favorite way to relax is not convenient since I do not currently live by the beach anymore, but in a dream world I’d relax on the white sandy beaches under an umbrella with a good book and a Publix sub. That is my happy place.” –Chelsea
“During the day, if both kids are in school and I have downtime from my work, I just want to sit and stare out the window. I watch all of the things going outside … trees moving with the wind, birds flying from branch to branch, butterflies hopping from one bush to another … and I pray. I spend time thanking God for my life and all of the ways he’s blessed me. I thank him for the hard times because I know he uses them to shape me and strengthen me. At night my relaxing time consists of the hottest bath I can run without scolding myself, candles, hot tea and a book. We have put the kids to bed and my hubby is usually getting ready for his next work day on the computer so I’m free to dream or zone out to a good book. (Can I go there now?!!!)” –Lauren
“Almost every night as soon as the kids are asleep I run a hot bath and grab my Kindle. I love bathtub reading. I could stay in there for hours, but eventually I get out when the water gets to cold. All is right in the world after a decent bath. I also love watching tv with my husband. We binge watch shows like it’s our job! If I ever find myself with downtime during the day I like to drink tea and listen to a podcast.” –Deidra
